Privacy Policy - Local Speed Reading

Local Speed Reading is developed and published by arkan.m.gerges. This policy explains what the app keeps on your device, what leaves your device, and who receives it.

What stays on your device

Local Speed Reading is built to work without an account and without a server. The following never leaves your device and is never sent to the developer:

• Your account. Accounts are local to the device and consist of a user name and an optional password. No e-mail address is required or collected, and there is no cloud account.
• Your books. Built-in books, books downloaded from the public-domain catalogue, and any file, web page or text you import are stored in the app's private storage on the device.
• The text you read, your reading position, your bookmarks and your notes.
• Your reading statistics: words per minute, session history, daily goals, streaks and personal bests.
• Your settings, including the profile picture you may choose from your gallery, which is copied into the app's private storage and is not uploaded.

Uninstalling the app removes all of it from the device.

What the app sends, and to whom

Advertising (free version only)

The free version shows ads supplied by Google AdMob while the device is online. To serve and measure those ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects your device's advertising ID along with device and ad-interaction information, and shares it with Google and its advertising partners. This is the only data the app shares with third parties.

You can reset or delete the advertising ID at any time in Android under Settings, Privacy, Ads. Subscribing to Pro removes all ads and, with them, this collection.

Usage statistics

The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand which screens and features are used, so that development effort goes to the right places. It records events such as which screen was opened, together with an app instance identifier and general device information (model, operating system version, approximate region).

It never records your name, your e-mail address, the text of any book, the contents of anything you import, your reading position, or the contents of your statistics.

Downloading books

When you choose to download a book from the public-domain catalogue, the app requests that file from books.localspeedreading.com, which is hosted on Cloudflare R2. Like any web server, it records the request in standard server logs, which include your IP address. Those logs are used to operate and protect the service and are not linked to any account or profile.

Importing a web page

If you ask the app to import a web page, the app fetches the address you supplied. That request goes to the website you named, which will see it as it would any other visit. The developer does not receive the address or the page.

The Pro subscription

The Pro subscription is sold and processed by Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by Google; the developer never receives or stores your payment details. The app only asks Google Play whether a valid subscription exists.

The services named above are operated by their own providers and handle data under their own policies:

Data retention and deletion

Everything the app stores on your device is deleted when you uninstall the app. You can also reset your reading progress, delete your own books and remove a local account from inside the app at any time.

The developer holds no personal account data and therefore has nothing to delete on request. Advertising and analytics data is held by Google under its own retention rules; you can reset your advertising ID in Android settings, and you may contact the developer at the address below with any question about this policy.

Children

Local Speed Reading is not directed to children under 13, and the developer does not knowingly collect data from them.

Permissions

The app requests internet access, which it uses for the purposes described above, and the Google Play billing permission, which it uses for the Pro subscription.

Changes to this privacy policy

If a future version of Local Speed Reading changes what it collects, this policy will be updated and the date at the top will change.
